Square Enix threw a party for its fans and we managed to get on the invite list.

August 2, 2008 - 2008 and 2009 are going to be a great year for gaming, according to Square Enix. The company is planning on rolling out at least ten of its most anticipated games within the next eighteen months, and to get fans excited about what they have to look forward to, it decided to showcase these titles at a private, invite only affair in Harajuku for fans only. Known as DKΣ3713 and held at the Quest building, the small venue had a large line of eager participants waiting outside in the humid and hot conditions for their glimpse at the latest trailers and chance to play some of these games.
The translation for the somewhat unpronounceable title essentially broke down into the following:
# D --Dissidia Final Fantasy
# K -- Kingdom Hearts (there were three of those titles shown: Coded, 358/2 and Birth by Sleep)
# Σ -- Sigma Harmonics
# 3 -- The 3rd Birthday
# 7 – Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete
# 13 – Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII (again, three titles shown: Agito, FF XIII and Versus XIII)
As participants entered the party, they were greeted with a large wall showcasing Final Fantasy XIII concept art, as well as merchandise that included models, key chains and CDs. Two other displays were on hand showcasing an outfit designed for FF Versus XIII by a popular Japanese designer and a new drink promotion tied in with Dissidia. After waiting for a few minutes, the fans were ushered into a main hall, where four separate stations were set up to let players get demos of Sigma Harmonics, Dissidia Final Fantasy, Birth By Sleep and 358/2 Days. A separate video wall was presented with a documentary that Tetsuya Nomura filmed about the development of Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII.
The true show was found on a big screen, which featured a countdown to the presentation. Once the countdown reached zero, a trailer montage that started with a shot of Neku Sakuraba from "The World Ends With You" running along the screen. From his image, ten logos popped up on screen and showcased the titles that were being presented. The trailer presentation, which lasted close to forty minutes, highlighted the games that will be coming in either 2008 or 2009 and had a few notable surprises announced at the end of each trailer. The more notable ones at the beginning were that The 3rd Birthday and Final Fantasy Agito XIII, both previously mobile titles only, are now slated to come to the PSP. But there were a few more announcements left in store. The Blu-ray of Final Fantasy VII Advent Children was announced to be both coming with a bundle as well as being sold as a stand alone product. The Blu-ray will have a demo of FFXIII, as well as trailers for Agito XIII and Versus XIII on it. Finally, the fears of Versus XIII moving to the 360 were put to rest, as it was stated in a trailer that it would only be available on the PS3.
While we only had a short while to check out some of the titles during the first day of the Private Party, here's a list of the articles that we've posted today. Check back tomorrow for more stories:
