While we can't go into terrible detail about the features we plan to implement in Russian Front, we can give you the gist of why you'd want to wait for this mod to come out.
Life System Rounds will be timed (like in Counter-Strike), but will feature multiple lives instead of a single to represent the second wave or reserve units reinforcing the lines.
The firearms will have two very different fire modes. The first is a "run" or "spray 'n pray" mode. Players will fire from the hip in this mode and will lose their crosshair along with any long to medium range accuracy. This will represent the fact that the soldier is choosing mobility over accuracy. The second fire mode is a "cautious", "close quarters battle" or "sniping" mode. The in-game crosshair will be on screen, and accuracy is at it's best. The player will move slower so that he can keep a steady arm on his rifle, and his eye through the sights.
The damage system will be realistic in that you can't take a bullet in the head. Six times. From an anti-tank rifle. At point blank range. While that statement is exaggerated, it stands true that the damage system will be as realistic as possible without ruining the game. Rest assured, lots of thought and testing has already gone into this subject.
The movement system in Russian Front is a unique one. There will be the standard movements (Walk, Run, Jump, Crouch, and Prone) and a stamina system. If you continue to jump or run, you'll loose your stamina and be forced to take a breather by either walking or stopping completely. The most promising movement feature is the weight system. Each piece of equipment in the game is allocated a certain amount of weight. The more a person is carrying, the slower he is and the more stamina he loses. Each class has a different limit, and when you run out, you'll be unable to pick up any more equipment.
Heads Up Display (HUD) The Rfront HUD is compact yet is packed with usefulness. In addition to the Life Meter, Stamina Meter and Weight "Meter" in the left hand corner, there will also be a backpack that can be activated by a key. Doing so will show you what you are carrying, their respective weights, and your remaining ammunition in their feeding units (Magazines, grenades, etc). There will be a round timer and a small soldier figure showing your current position (Prone, crouching, manning a machine gun, receiving medical attention and standing up).
Weapons We plan to implement most of the weapons used in the Russian Front of World War II. These will include scoped and unscoped rifles, pistols, revolvers, sub machineguns, light machine guns and heavy machine guns. All of the weapons will be realistically modeled, skinned and will have realistic in-game properties such as recoil, fire rate and damage. Rifles will be medium range, bolt-action weapons. Add a scope and turn it into death from afar! Pistols are the emergency weapons to use while encountering the enemy in the midst of reloading your weapon. On top of that they make very nice CQB weapons if your primary weapon is a bolt-action rifle. Sub machineguns are used for CQB and "Spray 'n Pray". LMG's (Light Machine Guns) are portable and able to reduce a squad into used bullet sponges. HMG's (Heavy Machine Guns) aren't very portable, but can reduce a division into heavily used bullet sponges. Definitions "Spray 'n Pray": Also known as "Gun 'n Run" and "Rock 'n Roll". It is the act of moving forward or retreating quickly while keeping the trigger on a fully automatic firearm depressed. Fighting up-close is called close Quarters Battle (CQB) or close combat. Firefights that occur indoors or in small areas are considered close combat.
A viewing magnification device (a scope) placed on top of a weapon to increase the distance in which a marksman can see and accurately hit his targets. This is generally not an advantage at short-range use.
Bolt-Action Rifle: A weapon that uses physical movement from the firer to eject the spent cartridge, reset the spring and insert a fresh cartridge into the chamber.
Pistol: Small, cased, handheld weapon firing small cartridges made to provide stopping power at short distances. A auto-loading, magazine-fed pistol.
Revolver: Small, handheld weapon without an outer case that usually fires high-velocity cartridges also known as "magnum" rounds. Has a rotating cylinder that usually holds 6 rounds. Hence the name, revolver.
Sub Machine Gun (SMG): A small, compact weapon made to fire pistol ammunition in a fully automatic fashion. Provides considerable fire power for CQB and short ranges, but incredibly inaccurate beyond.
Light Machine Gun (LMG): Larger than the rifle, smaller than the HMG. Usually supported by a bipod. Fires rifle ammunition at medium to high fire rates. Provides very good firepower at short to medium distances, but can overheat quickly.
Heavy Machine Gun (HMG): Larger than LMG, smaller than a battleship deck gun Fires rifle ammunition at medium to high fire rates. Provides extreme firepower at medium to long ranges for extended periods of time.
Bullet sponge: Also known as United States Marines (just kidding Marines are a formidable fighting force and far exceed what is considered "just a footslogger".
