Is the NV35 a "successful" NV30? The tests which will appear with the neighbourhoods of May 13 we will say it, but while waiting we can of golds and already to reveal you the principal characteristics of that which NVIDIA baptized GeForce FX 5900. More innovating of them is the intelligent compression of the colors without losses. For the NV35 the INTELLISAMPLE was polished and becomes INTELLISAMPLE HTC. The algorithms charged to determine when a color of texture or data Z must be compressed were refined. Moreover, INTELLISAMPLE HTC introduces techniques of antialiasing and improved filtering anisotropy. Engine CINE FX inaugurated with the NV30 passes in version 2.0. One does not have however to expect great upheaval, this version 2 bringing only one innovation: UltraShadow technology. I do not believe to mislead me if I say that this technology was created for Doom III the Graal Saint of NVIDIA. According to NVIDIA this technology accelerates calculations determining the interactions of the shades with the environment. The architecture OF the NV35 is very close to that of the NV30, i.e. with the same limitations as for the organization of the pipelines. In spite of that NVIDIA affirms in its documentation which the NV35 can treat twice more operations in floating point on the shaders than the NV30. One speaks about the NV35, but it is in fact 3 charts which will be born. And, that should reassure the detractors of the FX Flow, NVIDIA gave up this dry hair with the profit of a more conventional ventilator which condemns nevertheless port NCV located under port AGP. The Ultra NV35, in other words Ultra GeForce FX 5900 is equipped with 256 Mo of memory. Given rhythm to 450 MHz for the GPU and 425 MHz GDR for the memory (850 MHz) it lays out of 27.2 Go/s of band-width memory. NVIDIA affirms that this version is 25 to 80 % more powerful than the RADEON 9800 Pro following the applications, in the 1600x1200 resolution with a FSAA 4X and an anisotropic filtering 8X. I am unaware of per hour or I write his lines if the memory is of type GDR or of type DDR2. Considering the frequency memory I would be tempted to think that it is DDR2. But Hynix having developed a memory GDR 2.2 NS able to hold this frequency, the doubt remains. This one will be raised the next week. GeForce FX 5900 will embark 128 Mo of SDRAM GDR, but these frequencies were not communicated. These two models will be marketed as from June at the respective prices of 499 $ and 399 $. (Made conversion and add the VAT). Next July, NVIDIA will launch a cut-rate version of the NV35 "NV35 Value" which will have 128 Mo of memory. Its price is estimated at 299 $.
One should not leave polytechnic to notice that both GeForce FX5900 leave at the head this bench realized under 3d Mark2003. First of all, it is noticed that the variations of performances are there but are not so enormous that one could have hoped for it. However these benchs was much better with the drivers Detonator 50.xx than nVidia did not launch yet and it is for that that TT-Hardware preferred to put the benchs obtained by their source with the drivers currently circulating on the Net. The first tests to be appeared will not be then can be not completely representative of the real capacities of the charts. To finish, let us come in to the very technical aspect about which 3DChips-Fr speaks to us: As I already said nVidia wished to integrate a bus report 256 bits managing GDR-I as well as GDR-II, but it is not all, we are entitled from now on to the technology Intellisample HTC which is not other than an evolution of Intellisample which makes it possible to improve quality of posting and the performances. Cine FX, that nVidia had praised so much during the launching of the NV30 passes in version 2 with the addition of the UltraShadow technology which allows an easier management of the shades in the applications 3d (Plays). The NV35 will be able according to nVidia to carry out twice more operations in floating point on the shaders than his/her big brother NV30. nVidia thus hopes to propose a chart 25 to 80 % more powerful than Radeon 9800 Pro in 1600x1200 with a FSAA 4X and an anisotropic filtering 8X.
