RVS Ballistics Testing
This was a test to determine the penetration effects of Raven Shield’s various weapons through doors. The test was conducted by AusRVS staff on import/export on the same door with roughly the same shooter/target positions. The test did not take into account or attempt to answer the wall penetration bug that is being reported at this time. For the test, AusRVS staff decided that the most common structure that bullets will be fired through is doors and some wooden/tin objects. The aim was to assist people playing the game fairly with some hard data to help them with their room clearing and entry strategies, especially when used in conjunction with the heartbeat sensor.
For reference, the only time we tested the fire-power through doors with silencers attached, is if the weapon in question was effective without the silencer in the first place, obviously if the gun doesn't penetrate the door with a stock setup it isn't going to with a silencer attached. We also tested both types of ammo with each and every gun that supported more than one type.
Below, when we list a gun as "Ineffective", it either doesn't penetrate at all, or penetrates the door and makes the enemy flinch, however no amount of fired rounds brings the enemy to a lower health status. When "X shots" is listed, that's simply how many shots it takes to eliminate the enemy. All shots were placed on the enemies chest.

LIGHT MACHINE GUNS
- Only the MK23 penetrates and does damage in the pistol class
- No SMGs penetrate the test stucture.
- Only the 5.56mm caliber rifles penetrate and kill with 1-2 shots.
- For some reason 7.62mm caliber rifles (M14, RPD and SSG) do not penetrate! This is interesting because in reality, 7.62mm is a much more capable and heavier round than 5.56mm. Also in RVS both the M14 and SSG have 2 of the highest damage ratings. One can only deduct that the developers have “detuned” this caliber in the game for gameplay balance.
- Silencers prevent any rifle from penetrating with the exception of the VSS sniper rifle, which has a integrated silencer and special 9mm ammunition.
This test gives pretty convincing results as to which weapons penetrate light structures, particularly wooden doors, within the Raven Shield gamespace. For teams that need the capability to penetrate these structures for whatever tactics they are using, the 5.56mm Rifles are the most effective for this task. It is also good to know that the only pistol suitable for this task is the MK23 without the silencer, which should influence teams in deciding the best all round pistol for their operators. The most interesting point of this test is that the 7.62mm weapons do not penetrate the doors tested, even though through experience these weapons are the most effective (particularly the M14) in direct combat with the opposition.
