Well it's been an interesting weekend so far, the demo has been received as both great and so-so, so I just wanted to clarify some things. We will continue making fixes to the game. I'm not sure what EA will decide on patching THIS DEMO, it may or may not happen, who knows, but time is better spent refining the ACTUAL GAME.
Q: Can we hack the demo?
A: No, the demo had to be locked down so that no new assets will function with it. Sorry, we just can't let people mod the demo.
Q: Why do the textures look crappy?
A: If you ran the auto config, you might have gotten shafted with low end or medium textures. Try turning the texture bit depth and color depth to 32 bit, and turning textures to high and see how things look. The new weaopn and player skins are fantastic, trust me, if something looks bad, please check your texture settings in the video setup of the main menu.
Q: I want my old MOH back with just some of the new stuff
A: Server admins have the following abilities, they:
- can control nearly all weapon functionality, clip sizes, firing rate, movement rate while holding a certain gun, etc.
- can turn off specific weapons
- can disable voting, filter voting, or make new voting options
- can revert back to the old sniper rifles
- can change the overall movement rate back to the old speed
- can control map rotation (AND YES MOHAA MAPS WORK WITH SPEARHEAD)
- many other features are admin configurable
so in a nutshell, you will be able to revert most things back to the same old MOH if you wish. Very few changes are permanent. PLEASE NOTE, SINCE YOU CANNOT MOD THIS DEMO, MANY OF THESE CHANGES ARE NOT POSSIBLE. SOME OF THE ADMIN SETTINGS LISTED ABOVE REQUIRE THE RETAIL RELEASE OF MOHAA:SPEARHEAD.
Q: What's up with the popping characters, and players moving through walls (visual bug)?
A: The new netcode attempts to cull out players that you can't see, this obviously needs some adjustment as you're seeing players pop.
Q: What's up with the lag, I'm pinging 40 and it's still slow?
A: ping and packetloss are two different things, you'll often find that cable or dsl based server give you great pings but crappy throughput. Try a T1 server, I've played on some for hours with zero lag.
Q: Why isn't character X wearing historically correct gear or clothing?
A: We have to balance many things while creating assets and sometimes we don't have the time to make everything as historically correct as it should be. My apologies, but IMO it's better to have more new skins than just one skin that's 100% accurate.
Q: Why doesn't weapon X work like it does in reality?
A: Some weapons have to be dumbed down for gameplay purposes (do you really want to fight against a guy that has a 71 round drum on an SMG?).
Q: That new grenade launcher weapon is for n00bs.
A: Different strokes ya know, if you don't like it, have the admin turn it off, or vote it off. Every weapon has it's pros and cons and that weapon isn't too terribly different than throwing primed grenades. It just throws them further and with less control.
Q: Why did you take out leaning while moving?
A: Because we listened to you! The majority of players don't appreciate binders, and thought the leaning was way out of hand.
Q: Jumping doesn't suck anymore, why?
A: Because you no longer pause to jump, then jump. You just jump.
Q: Falling damage actually does realistic damage now, why?
Q: Why are textures missing, clip models missing etc?
A: This is a byproduct of the creation of the demo, those assets were missed when making the scaled down version of the game. These assets are present in the final version of Spearhead.
Q: What's up with the server lockups or players that float around and nobody can join the game?
A: This is a new bug, it did not occur in our testing.
Q: What do you see for the future?
A: Fixes, balance, refinement, tweaking, cheat fixing.
